WIRED GLASS
Wired glass is fire-rated glass embedded in steel mesh wires. It’s meant to hold glass together in the case of a fire and prevent the spread of smoke. Whether used for a store front, in a hospital, in schools, or as an extra layer of security at home, nothing stopped an object dead in its tracks like wired glass.

What is Wired Glass?
Wired glass is fire-rated glass embedded in steel mesh wires. It’s meant to hold glass together in the case of a fire and prevent the spread of smoke. Whether used for a store front, in a hospital, in schools, or as an extra layer of security at home, nothing stopped an object dead in its tracks like wired glass. It was a solid way to protect residential and commercial property in areas prone to accidents or break-in.
Wired Glass Safety
Unfortunately wired glass is not safety glass and does not meet the safety standards for human impact. There have been numerous injuries involving wired glass which has prompted a review of the Building Standards Code in Canada. The current glass standard is out of date and is expected to be replaced with a more modern standard in Canada. In the United states, wired glass cannot meet the standards impact and it’s use has been limited but not completely banned.

Centennial Glass prescribes using 3M Scotchshield Ultra S800 and S600 Safety and Security Window Film as an alternative to traditional wired glass. This micro-layered, tear-resistant film enhances protection of people, property and possessions. It helps to:
- Mitigates hazards from shattered glass due to natural disasters

and fatalities - Increases security and helps provide added protection against smash and grab burglaries
- Helps extend the life of furnishings by significantly reducing harmful UV rays, the largest cause of fading
